30/12/2022 | It was announced today that Mark Johnston, Britain's winningmost trainer, will no longer officially appear on the licence at Kingsley House/Park and instead the horses will run solely in the name of Charlie Johnston, albeit Mark & Deirdre's roles will continue as before. The joint licence arrangement was only in operation, as it turned out, for the duration of 2022.
26/12/2022 | Traditional Boxing Day fayre at Wetherby sees a Yorkshire 1-2 in the main race with Mark Walford's Into Overdrive landing the £28,475 Rowland Meyrick Handicap Chase by half a length from Ruth Jefferson's Sounds Russian. Tim Easterby and Sue Smith were the other victorious local trainers on the card. At Newcastle there are winners for Philip Kirby and Tim Easterby.
09/12/2022 | Another valuable flat win today when David O'Meara's Nomadic Empire lands the £36,000 Al Manama Cup at Bahrain, with Roger Fell's Digital in third. Domestically Alan Brown took the last two at Wolverhampton whilst Grant Tuer and Brian Ellison had a winner apiece at Southwell.
07/12/2022 | This evening saw Charlie & Mark Johnston's Pons Aelius land the £41,232 Unibet London Stayers' Series (Final) Handicap at Kempton under Joanna Mason, having only her second ride for Kingsley Park ; the last time also being on this colt, who was having his 16th run of the season, yielding 4 wins in total. David O'Meara took the last, having also struck at Lingfield earlier in the day.
03/12/2022 | In addition to her two winners at Wetherby (where Micky Hammond also had a winner) today Sue Smith's Romeo Brown landed the £21,852 Boylesports Extra Places Daily Handicap Hurdle at Aintree at 50-1. Evening racing at Wolverhampton saw Julie Camacho's Shaquille make it three from four when landing the £15,462 (catchy race name warning) It's Time To Turn To talkSPORT Novice Stakes (AW Championships Fast-Track Qualifier) (GBB Race).
12/11/2022 | A Yorkshire 1-2-3 in the Golden Rose Stakes L at Lingfield today with David O'Meara's Summerghand coming home in front of Julie Camacho's Judicial with Karl Burke's Exalted Angel completing the trio. Mick & David Easterby had a winner at Uttoxeter and Micky Hammond took the last at Wetherby. Evening racing sees a fantastic Ruth Carr treble at Wolverhampton where Mick & David Easterby also chalked up another winner.
05/11/2022 | Breeders' Cup Day Two sees Kevin Ryan's Emaraaty Ana put up a strong performance when second in the Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint G1, with John Quinn's Highfield Princess back in fouth. At Doncaster Karl Burke's Fast Response is a comfortable winner of the Wentworth Stakes L with Tim Easterby's Art Power third. Declan Carroll's stable star Emiyn is a decent third in the £36,078 November Handicap and Richard Fahey takes the last. John Quinn and David O'Meara have winners at Chelmsford.
04/11/2022 | Breeders' Cup Day One and it goes quite well for Yorkshire. Early doors the Branton Court homebred Dramatised, trained in Middleham by Karl Burke, is only headed in the dying strides when an excellent second in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint G1, The Platinum Queen looked very unlucky when finishing well down the field. Later on the card Richard Fahey's progressive Midnight Mile ran a promising fourh (only a head out of third) in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf G1. Highfield Princess runs tomorrow ... ! Domestically Sam England took the last at Hexham and Ann Duffield, Ruth Carr and Antony Brittain all had wins at Newcastle. Paul Mulrennan was confirmed as 'Cock Of The North' for the first time.
22/10/2022 | Charlie & Mark Johnston chalk up Yorkshire seventh Group One win of the season when Dubai Mile holds on by a hard-fought head to land the Criterium de Saint-Cloud G1 in heavy ground. He's actually in the Horses-in-Training Sales next week .... !!?! At equally heavy Doncaster Karl Burke's ever dependable Holloway Boy is third in the Vertem Futurity Trophy G1 whilst stablemate Fast Response lands the following £24,300 vertem.co.uk Handicap. We are heading towards winter and at Kelso Ruth Jefferson's progressive Sounds Russian landed the £20,812 Edinburgh Gin Handicap Chase.
18/10/2022 | The season may be gradually drawing to a close but Karl Burke garnered another stakes winning two year old today when Secret Angel landed the Prix Zeddaan L at Deauville by a hard fought neck. Geoff Harker took the last at Newcastle whilst Declan Carroll had a winner at Yarmouth and C&M Johnston scored on Kempton's evening card.
15/10/2022 | No joy in the Champions Sprint Stakes at Ascot today, but there was some consolation later on the card with David O'Meara's Shelir landing the closing £103,080 Balmoral Handicap. At Catterick Richard Fahey's Vintage Clarets is second in the £23,193 Catterick Dash, with Tim Easterby's Music Society third. Fahey lands a double whilst Adrian Keatley and C&M Johnston also have winners. John Wainwright has a winner at Market Rasen whilst David O'Meara scores on Wolverhampton's evening meeting.
08/10/2022 | Result of the day came at York in the £51,540 Coral Sprint Trophy Handicap where Richard Fahey's Strike Red, a real-money spinner last season, came home in front of Tim Easterby's Hyperfocus. Julie Camacho took the closing £10,800 Finale Handicap with Titian. No winners at Newmarket but two decent third places with Karl Burke's Holloway Boy (who may not have lived up to the hype of his Royal Ascot win, but is ultra-consistent) occupying that place in the Autumn Stakes G3 and Charlie & Mark Johnston's Dear My Friend doing likewise in the Zetland Stakes G3. Danny Brooke and Brian Ellison had wins at Hexham. Evening/late afternoon racing at Chelmsford sees John Quinn and Ruth Carr land the opening two races.
07/10/2022 | The Burke and Fahey show continued at Newmarket today where Richard Fahey's well-bred Midnight Mile prevailed by a head in the Oh So Sharp Stakes G3, and the Karl Burke duo of Novakai and Bright Diamond were second and third respectively in the Fillies' Mile G1. At York Tim Easterby's Tyrone's Poppy was a good second in the British EBF £100,000 2Yo Series Final, picking up £23,890 for connections. Julie Camacho and Harriet Bethell took the last two on the Knavesmire. David O'Meara provided Yorkshire's sole winner on Newcastle's evening card.
02/10/2022 | Group One winners are like buses ...... Richard Fahey's The Platinum Queen prevailed by a short neck from Karl Burke's White Lavender to land the Prix de l'Abbaye G1 at Longchamp this afternoon, becoming the first two-year-old to land the race in 44 years. She has now earned over £345k, even better than Cold Case ! Celita was a creditable fourth. Ann Duffield had a winner at Kelso where Peter Niven's Malystic was second in the main race. Adrian Nicholls' Mo
01/10/2022 | Crikey, where to start ? .... with the Group One winner I suppose ......Kevin Ryan's largely unheralded Fonteyn kept on well to land the Sun Chariot Stakes G1 at Newmarket this afternoon at 16-1. This was her first win since landing the Michael Seely Memorial Stakes L (as a maiden) at York back in May, although she was a decent fourth in the Nassau Stakes G1 in between, but this victory propels her to a higher level. Later on the card the Charlie & Mark Johnston trained Madame Ambassador ran nicely to land the £25,770 EBF Premier Fillies' Handicap, could she be heading the same direction as her dam, the Johnston trained Group One winner Lady Jane Digby, who hadn't achieved this much by the end of her three year old career ? Karl Burke took the last ......... speaking of whom, his Al Qareem took a big step forward today when landing the Prix Chaudenay G2 at Longchamp by a nose. Next term he may well come up against some of those who ran in today's Prix Cadran G1 where Brian Ellison's Tashkhan was a career-best third, albeit someway behind the impressive winner Kyprios. In between times C&M Johnston's Crackovia was a decent fourth in the £126,050 Haras de Bouquetot - Criterium Arqana. And so to Ascot where Julie Camacho's Ainsdale got events off to a reasonable start when second in the Rous Stakes L , and then David O'Meara's Summerghand occupied the same position in the Bengough Stakes G3 before stablemate Escobar won the £92,772 Peroni Nastro Azzurro Challenge Cup Heritage Handicap, with James Horton's Asjad back in the third. It's not over yet ...... now to Redcar where Charlie & Mark Johnston's progressive I'm A Gambler took the first of the big races on the card when landing the Guisborough Stakes L by a length from James Horton's Rhythm Master. Next up was the £85,065 Wm Hill Two Year Old Trophy L which fell to Karl Burke's hot favourite Cold Case, a two year who has now earned over £275k without landing a group race, with Kevin Ryan's Washington Heights again putting up a decent performance to finish third. No local winner in the £23,193 Straight-Mile Series Final Handicap, although David O'Meara's Pisanello was a neck second and C&M Johnston's Spirit Catcher third. Richard Fahey had landed the opener on Teeside (he also had Yorkshire's sole winner on Wolverhampton's evening card) and Kevin Ryan and Tim Easterby also had winners later on the card. Time to get our breath back before the Arc card tomorrow.
30/09/2022 | David O'Meara's (relatively) new recruit Timeless Soul ran well at Saint-Cloud this afternoon to be second in the Prix Dahlia L. Some reasonable placings at Ascot, but no winners whilst Jedd O'Keeffe and Mark Walford score at Hexham. Evening racing at Newcastle sees winners for Bryan Smart, Julie Camacho and C&M Johnston.
25/09/2022 | Tim Easterby's Art Power made it three in a row ........ in Ireland .... when landing the Renaissance Stakes G3 at the Curragh for the second year in a row, James Horton's Sam Maximus put up another good performance in second. Over at Cologne the Charlie & Mark Johnston trained Sirona landed the Koln-Winterkonigin Trial L by four lengths. Charlie & Mark Johnston also took the opener at Epsom. Sadly the death was announced today of two Yorkshire stalwarts. Tim Etherington, former trainer at Wold House, Malton, has passed away at the age of 62. He took over the licence from his father Jimmy (who survives him) in 1994 and trained such good horses as Soba Up, Vagabond Chanteuse, Kayo, Regal Song, Kestral, Fullandby and Burning Thread (he'd earlier handled Repeat The Dose to land the Cathcart when training privately for Andrew Wates in Surrey) and later operated a horse transport business. Tommy 'Squeak' Fairhurst died on Friday aged 95. Based in Middleham he was apprenticed to Matt Peacock and rode until 1968, as well as working as Head Lad for Ernie Weymes. He began training in 1969 (initially at Tupgill before buying Glasgow House in 1977) and sent out numerous winners the most significant of which was Barrys Gamble who took the Windsor Castle Stakes, he also trained Brython, Cragside, Henry Will and Woodsome, who took the Firth of Clyde Stakes in 1975. 'Squeak' retired at the end of 1993 when the stable was taken over by his son Chris.
24/09/2022 | Cambridgeshire Day at Newmarket sees Charlie & Mark Johnston's Dubai Mile run into a decent second in the Royal Lodge G2, largely against market expectations. Karl Burke's Swingalong was fourth in the Cheveley Park Stakes G1 whilst stablemate Alexa's Princess was third in the £25,770 EBF 'Jersey Lily' Fillies' Nursery Handicap. Chester specialist Emiyn landed the £51,024 Deepbridge Watergate Cup Handicap for Declan Carroll whilst Tim Easterby's Tyrone's Poppy took the £20,100 Mr & Mrs Dobson Nursery Handicap and Tim Easterby also had another winner later on the Deeside card. Financially the biggest result of the day came at The Curragh where Richard Fahey's Ramazan was third in the Goffs Million, picking up £103,697 for connections. Ruth Jefferson, Joanne Foster and Peter Niven all had winners at Market Rasen where Adrian Keatley's Kihavah was second in the feature race. Peter Niven, Tim Easterby, Gemma Tutty, Paul Midgley, Mark Walford and Danny Brooke provided the local winners at Ripon.
23/09/2022 | Karl Burke's Electric Eyes puts up a decent performance to be second in the Rockfel Stakes G2 at Newmarket this afternoon. All-weather evening action at Newcastle yields a double for Grant Tuer and wins for Paul Midgley, Ben Haslam, Nigel Tinkler.
22/09/2022 | Newmarket sees Karl Burke's Hollaway Boy finish second in Tattersalls Stakes G3 and Charlie & Mark Johnston (having taken the opening maiden) see Thunderous occupy the same position in the Jockey Club Rose Bowl L. Ann Duffield, Charlie & Mark Johnston, David O'Meara, Nigel Tinkler and Tim Easterby all have winners at Pontefract, whilst Mick & David Easterby and Roger Fell score on Southwell's evening card.
17/09/2022 | Busy today and some good Yorkshire results. Up at Ayr another David O'Meara veteran, the eight year old Summerghand, lands the £77,310 Ayr Gold Cup by a comfortable length. Earlier on the card Richard Fahey's largely unfancied Barefoot Angel sprung a bit of a surprise when landing the Firth of Clyde Fillies' Stakes G3, with Kevin Ryan's Queen Me (the favourite) back in third. At Newbury another Richard Fahey outsider, 20-1 shot Rousing Encorse, is a good second in the Mill Reef Stakes G2. Tom Tate, Charlie & Mark Johnston and Craig Lidster all have wins at Newmarket whilst at Catterick the local winners are supplied by a Mark Walford double and wins singular for Tim Easterby and Brian Ellison.
16/09/2022 | Day two at Ayr sees a Yorkshire 1-2-3 in the £15,462 Ayr Bronze Cup with Tim Easterby's Danzan prevailing over Kevin Ryan's Fast and Loose and Tim Easterby's Mattice. Jacqueline Coward took the last.
15/09/2022 | Day one of the 'Western Isles' festival at Ayr sees Mick & David Easterby's Yorkshire Lady land the £15,462 Kilkerran Cup whilst Kevin Ryan takes both the opening novice races, Tim Easterby lands a winner and Mick & David Easterby double up when victorious in the last. At Ponty there are winners for Simon Whitaker, Julie Camacho, Tim Easterby, Richard Fahey and Ed Bethell, whilst over at Naas John Quinn's Signora Camacho is third in the e49,400 Goffs Sportsman's Challenge. 'Racing League' evening action at Newcastle sees Paul Midgley land the closing £25,770 sprint handicap with The Bell Conductor.
14/09/2022 | David O'Meara stalwart Escobar, ever young at eight years, put up another good performance to be third in the Fortune Stakes L at Sandown this afternoon. Local wins at Beverley are supplied by Roger Fell, Craig Lidster (seventh win of his debut season), Paul Midgley, Tim Easterby and Karl Burke (who arguably isn't that local!).
11/09/2022 | Boom! John Quinn's Highfield
Princess makes it three Group One's in a row when landing
the Flying Five G1 at the Curragh.
Furthermore this means she has now won more than £1m,
which means we can finally convert the clusmily named
'Top 10 Winningmost' list into the 'Yorkshire
Millionaires' List ! (see below) although, for now, it is
also still The Top Ten. Earlier stablemate Mr Wagyu was a
decent third in the e88,500 EBF 'Bold Lad' Sprint Premier
Handicap. On the rescheduled St Leger card at Doncaster James
Horton's Asjad landed another big one when
taking the £27,000 Cazoo Handicap, with Tim
Easterby's Hyperfocus in third. In addition Richard
Fahey's The Platinum Queen, second to Highfield
Princess last time out, was again runner-up this time in
the Flying Childers Stakes G2. Tim
Easterby's Count D'Orsay was third in the
Portland Handicap and John Quinn's Empirestateofmind
was second in the £25,770 PJ Towey Construction
Handicap. Finally, over at Dusseldorf, Charlie
& Mark Johnston's Crackovia was second in
the Grosser Preis des Laki's Im Ko-Quartier - Junioren
Preis L, her first bit of 'black type'.

||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10/09/2022 | No racing in the UK due to the death of HM The Queen, but that doesn't prevent a Yorkshire 1-2 in a big race with Charlie & Mark Johnston's I'm A Gambler coming home in front of John Quinn's Safe Voyage in the e88,500 EBF 'Sovereign Path' Premier Handicap over at Leopardstown.
08/09/2022 | Day two of the Leger meeting and, as it transpires, also the penultimate day. Karl Burke's Cold Case runs a blinder to land the £147,540 Weatherbys Scientific £300,000 2-Y-O Stakes and stablemate Novakai also runs well to be second in te May Hill Stakes G2. Grant Tuer's Dirtyoldtown is second in the £25,770 Cazoo Handicap and Tim Easterby's Misty Blues is third in the £26,170 'Carrie Red' Fillies' Nursery Handicap and Paul Midgley lands the penultimate race. The evening cards at Chelmsford and Southwell are curtailed following the news of the death of HM The Queen. Ultimately this also leads to the cancellation of all racing on Friday and Saturday, with Sunday featuring a rescheduled 'final' day of the Leger meeting.
07/09/2022 | Day One of the Leger Meeting at Doncaster sees Richard Fahey's Absolute Dream land the 'Legends' race under Sammy-Jo Bell before stablemate Umm Kulthum is a good second in the Sceptre Stakes G3. Next is the Scarbrough Stakes L in which Adrian Nicholls (fresh from finishing second in the Legends race!) saddles Mo Cellita to be second, with Karl Burke's Attagirl back in third. At Carlisle there are winners for Karl Burke, Bryan Smart (a double), Tim Easterby and Declan Carroll. Legendary bloodstock agent James Delahooke who has been based in Yorkshire for the last 30 years, sadly passed away today (on his beloved Yorkshire grouse moors) at the age of 77. He was the driving force in the early days of the Juddmonte operation, buying many of the mares and fillies that have subsequently resulted in the likes of Frankel, Enable, Workforce and Warning. He originally rose to prominence buying at the opposite end of the spectrum for Guy Harwood whilst he also has enjoyed a close association with Middleham's Bethell family.
04/09/2022 | More black type today at York for Richard Fahey's Ventura Diamond who is third, a head out of second, in the Garrowby Stakes L. Nigel Tinkler, Karl Burke, David O'Meara and Kevin Ryan also have winners.
03/09/2022 | Lots of racing today (if not that many runners) but the main action was centred on Haydock, where it was a good day for Kevin Ryan. To kick events off Ryan's Captain Winters was a decent third in the Ascendant Stakes L. Next up Ryan's Triple Time, off the course since winning the Ascendent Stakes exactly a year ago, made his seasonal debut when comfortably landing the Superior Mile G3, in which Roger Fell's Marie's Diamond was third. C&M Johnston's Pons Aelius was third in the £51,540 Get Daily Rewards With Betfair Handicap, whilst David O'Meara's Charging Thunder put up another good performance when second in the £51,540 Old Borough Cup. Back to Kevin Ryan when his Emaraaty Ana was a good second in the Betfair Sprint Cup G1 (which he won last year), albeit he was someway behind the impressive winner. Finally, Haydock wise, Julie Camacho's Look Out Louis landed yet another big race when taking the £37,800 Be Friendly Handicap from Karl Burke's Korker. Elsewhere C&M Johnston took the Nursery at Ascot whilst Karl Burke, Ruth Carr, James Horton, Tim Easterby and Ed Bethell provided the local winners at Thirsk.
01/09/2022 | Evening 'Racing League' action at Windsor yields a good pay day for Richard Fahey with two £25,770 winners courtesy of Vintage Clarets and Wootton'Sun, not to mention third placings for Gorak and Ana Gold. Earlier Haydock saw wins for C&M Johnston and Julie Camacho whilst Philip Kirby, Micky Hammond and Ben Haslam take the last three at Sedgefield.
29/08/2022 | The usual Bank Holiday madness with the best results coming at Ripon where David O'Meara's Star Of Lady M is third in the EBF Ripon Champion Two Yrs Old Trophy Stakes L and stablemate Shelir lands the £12,885 Ripon Rowels Handicap with supporting winners provided by Nigel Tinkler, Harriet Bethell, C&M Johnston, Ed Bethell and Craig Lidster. Sam England has a winner at Cartmel, whilst Richard Fahey and John Quinn strike at Epsom . At Southwell there are doubles for Richard Fahey and M&D Easterby with Ann Duffield and David O'Meara having winners singular.
27/08/2022 | Only one Yorkshire winner at Goodwood today, but it's a good one with Charlie & Mark Johnston's I'm A Gambler taking the £38,655 Wm Hill Handicap, in the which the David O'Meara duo of Orbaan and Rhoscolyn are respectively second and third. However there were lots of strong placings on the card with John Quinn's Breege second in the Prestige Fillies' Stakes G3, ahead of Karl Burke's Bright Diamond, David O'Meara's Animato third in the March Stakes G3 and stablemate Escobar occupying the same position in the Celebration Mile G2. At Newmarket James Horton's Sam Maximus comes out on top in a tight finish to the Hopeful Stakes L, earlier Karl Burke's Miss Jungle Cat picked up £22,140 for second in the £100,000 Tattersalls Somerville Auction Stakes and later C&M Johnston's Soapy Stevens is third in the £25,770 Bet With Jenningsbet Handicap. The best local finisher in the Beverley Bullet L was Julie Camacho's Ainsdale in fourth, but local winners came from Mark Walford, John Quinn, David O'Meara and John Wainwright whilst at Redcar's evening meeting David O'Meara, Tim Easterby, Karl Burke, Geoff Harker, Peter Niven and Declan Carroll all find the winners enclosure.
26/08/2022 | Another career milestone for Adrian Nicholls' today when Tees Spirit lands the Abergwaun Stakes L over the minimum trip at Tipperary. Domestically Richard Fahey took the last two at Thirsk where Julie Camacho, Ann Duffield, Micky Hammond and Tim Easterby also scored whilst C&M Johnston had a winner on Hamilton's evening card, to add to the preceeding 5,000 winners.
20/08/2022 | Final Day of the Ebor Meeting, and again it goes well, albeit without hitting the heights of yesterday. The opening Strensall Stakes G2 saw Roger Fell's Marie's Diamond finish a decent third, and Tim Easterby's Art Power made a reasonable seasonal debut when fourth in the City Of York Stakes G2. The first local winner on the card came in the £51,540 Sky Bet Constantine Heritage Handicap courtesy of David O'Meara's veteran Summerghand before a Yorkshire 1-2 in the closing, and appropriately named, £41,232 Sky Bet Finale Handicap where James Horton's Phantom Flight took the honours by five lengths from Richard Fahey's Spirit Dancer. At Deauville Charlie & Mark Johnston's Dear My Friend got his first black type by finishing third in the valuable Criterium du Fonds Europeen de l'Elevage L whilst at Sandown Kevin Ryan's Fonteyn was fourth in the Atalanta Stakes G3, albeit connections were probably expecting better, C&M Johnston took the nursery. Declan Carroll and Julie Camacho each had a winner at Chester
19/08/2022 | Day Three of the Ebor Meeting goes very well for the locals ... understatement ... there might have been 'only' two winners, but cripes. Early on Kevin Ryan's Thundering is a decent second in the £51,450 Sky Bet Heritage Handicap. The next sees Brian Ellison's Tashkan run his normal solid race when fourth in the Lonsdale Cup G2. Next up Karl Burke's duo of Marshman and Cold Case put up excellent displays to be second and third respectively in the Gimcrack Stakes G2. Now to the main event ...... John Quinn's Highfield Princess confirmed that not only is she one of the best sprinters in training, but also one of the most versatile when adding the 5f Nunthorpe Stakes G1 to her victory in the 6.5f Prix Maurice de Gheest G1 only 12 days ago. But that's not all ; Richard Fahey's juvenille The Platinum Queen, suitably weighted of course, picks up £114,756 for second and Kevin Ryan's Emaraaty Ana returns to form to pick up third. Finally, to round out proceedings, Ed Bethell's Point Lynas lands the £51,540 Sky Bet Mile Handicap by a nose from Ann Duffield's Master Richard. At Carlisle Tim Easterby lands another double and there are also winners for Brian Ellison, Grant Tuer, C&M Johnston and Gemma Tutty. Evening racing at Newcastle yields winners for Brian Ellison and Ann Duffield whilst Ollie Pears takes the opener at Wolverhampton.
18/08/2022 | Day Two of the Ebor Meeting kicked off with Karl Burke winning the Lowther Stakes G2, as widely expected ..... albeit it was with 25-1 outsider Swingalong, rather than Evens favourite Dramatised who seemed not to stay when finishing fifith, Kevin Ryan's Queen Me was an excellent second, beaten only a neck and the pair pulled clear of the third. Next was the Goffs UK Henry Beeby Premier Yearling Stakes where Kevin Ryan again narrowly missed out with Washington Heights picking up £49,200 by finishing a head second, Tim Easterby's Northcliff and Richard Fahey's Dare To Hope also picked up decent money for finishing third and fourth. David O'Meara took the £64,425 Clipper Logistics Heritage Handicap with Blue For You, with veteran stablemate Escobar second for £30,212. Later on the card a strong performance from Richard Fahey's No Nay Nicki saw her pick up £24,170 when second in the British Stallion Studs EBF Fillies' Handicap. Elsewhere David O'Meara was amongst the winners at Chepstow whilst Tim Easterby had a double on Leicester's evening card where Uncle/Cousin Mick & David Easterby also had a win.
17/08/2022 | Day One of The Ascot of the North, more properly The Ebor Meeting at York, although as I'm currently in a hotel not far from Ascot that sprung to mind ! Things start very well with Kevin Ryan's Bergerac running out the short head winner of the opening £51,540 Sky Bet & Symphony Group Heritage Handicap. It transpired that was our only winner on the card however Ed Bethell's Oviedo was a decent third in the Acomb Stakes G3, John Quinn's Frankenstella picked up £24,170 by finishing second in the Sky Bet Stayers Heritage Handicap , as did Tim Easterby's Misty Blues by occupying the same position in the Sky Bet Nursery, Ed Bethell's Sandbeck was third in the Fillies' Handicap. In less exalted surroundings Tim Easterby has a double at Musselburgh, where John Quinn and Grant Tuer also score and there are winners for Karl Burke and Charlie & Mark Johnston at Wolverhampton.
14/08/2022 | Charlie & Mark Johnston's Tippy Toes, after a couple of sub-par performances elsewhere, returned to her favourite place - Chelmsford - to land the £25,770 Fairwood Fillies' Handicap off top-weight. Charlie & Mark Johnston also had a winner at Pontefract, as did Roger Fell, whilst Yorkshire's winners at Southwell came courtesy of Mick & David Easterby and Declan Carroll.
13/08/2022 | Another busy, and baking, summer Saturday. Performance of the day was probably Charlie & Mark Johnston's Ferrari Queen, a decent second in the Denford Stakes L at Newbury. No joy in the £51,540 Great St Wilfrid Handicap at Ripon, although Adrian Keatley's Mark's Choice was third, Tim Easterby did get a double though with supporting local winners provided by Roger Fell and Philip Kirby. Charlie & Mark Johnston had a double at Doncaster, where Adrian Nicholls also scored. Ann Duffield took the opener at Perth whilst evening racing saw a winner for Declan Carroll at Wolverhampton and Micky Hammond, Mark Walford and Peter Niven take the last three at Market Rasen.
11/08/2022 | Racing league sees Richard Fahey's Buckshaw Village land the £25,770 Wm Hill Build Your Odds Racing League Handicap at Lingfield, later on the card Brian Ellison's Fair Stay was second and Julie Camacho's Qaasid third in the £25,770 Wm Hill Your Odds Racing League Handicap. On Beverley there were local wins for John Quinn, Nigel Tinkler (a double including the Providence Stud bred Strangerontheshore) and Brian Ellison.
10/08/2022 | Charlie & Mark Johnston's Rose Of Kildare is second (again!) today when going down by a neck in the Upavon Fillies' Stakes L at Salisbury. At Beverley the local winners are trained by Richard Fahey, Tim Easterby, Charlie & Mark Johnston and Mick & David Easterby whilst Karl Burke lands the opener on Ffos Las' evening card.
07/08/2022 | Boom ! Yorkshire's second group one win of the year comes over at Deauville where John Quinn's Highfield Princess lands the Prix Maurice de Gheest G1 convincingly, somewhat ironically Yorkshire's other Group One winner, Perfect Power, finished in the pack. Her tenth win takes her career earnings over the £500k mark. Domestically Karl Burke, Jedd O'Keeffe, Tim Easterby and Richard Fahey each win £15,462 'Sunday Series' Handicaps at Haydock and Charlie & Mark Johnston had a winner at Windsor.
06/08/2022 | A very good day for the Yorkshire raiders at both Newmarket and Ascot. At HQ Karl Burke's Bright Diamond put up a suitably sparkling performance to land the maiden fillies' race by nine lengths and there was then a treble for Charlie & Mark Johnston culminating in a hard fought victory for Lakota Sioux in the Sweet Solera Stakes G3. Shergar Cup day at Ascot kicked off with David O'Meara's Orbaan putting yet more cash into his Weatherby's account by landing the opening £24,590 Dubai Duty Free Full Of Surprises Classified Stakes. Next up was the £36,885 Shergar Cup Dash in which Julie Camacho's Judicial was second and Tim Easterby's Lampang third. Next was the £36,885 Shergar Cup Stayers which fell to Charlie & Mark Johnston's Themaxwecan with stablemate Golden Flame third. The £36,885 Shergar Cup Challenge saw David O'Meara's Charging Thunder second and Brian Ellison's Onesmoothoperator third before Richard Fahey's Admiral D was third in the closing £36,885 Shergar Cup Sprint. David O'Meara had a winner at Haydock whilst Grant Tuer and Richard Fahey provided the only winners at Redcar. Evening racing at Ayr yielded another winner for David O'Meara and a double for Tim Easterby (both homebred by Habton Farms).

Declan Carroll, Brian Ellison and Ruth Carr had wins at Wolverhampton. Evening racing at Musselburgh yielded winners for Philip Makin, Bryan Smart, David & Nicola Barron, Ruth Carr and Peter Niven whilst Mick & David Easterby had a double at Southwell.
28/07/2022 | No Yorkshire winners at Goodwood today and the best result was a fourth place, albeit in a Group One with Kevin Ryan's Fonteyn occupying that place in the Nassau Stakes G1, after seeming to run a trifle green. David & Nicola Barron had a winner at Nottingham and Sam England likewise at Stratford.
27/07/2022 | Just the one winner on day two of Glorious Goodwood with Richard Fahey's The Platinum Queen four lengths victorious in the £25,770 Alice Keppel Fillies' Conditions Stakes, in which David O'Meara's Star Of Lady M is third. Later Charlie & Mark Johnston's Value Theory is third in the EBF Fillies' Handicap. Micky Hammond has a winner at Perth whilst Nigel Tinkler, Tim Easterby, Ed Bethell, Declan Carroll, Peter Niven and David & Nicola Barron all score at Redcar.
26/07/2022 | Day one, race one of Glorious Goodwood sees Charlie & Mark Johnston's Forest Falcon land the £38,655 Chesterfield Cup, In the next Karl Burke's Holloway Boy, the hot favourite , is 'only' second in the Vintage Stakes G2, which at least proves that his Royal Ascot performance was no flash in the pan. Yorkshire's second winner comes in the £18,039 Nicholson Gin Handicap courtesy of John Quinn's Lord Riddiford and there are good placing in the two fillies handicaps from Charlie & Mark Johnston's Rainbow Colours (second in the mile) and Karl Burke's Favourite Child (third in the sprint). Beverley sees wins for Micky Hammond, Craig Lidster, James Horton, John Quinn, Brian Ellison, Paul Midgley and Geoffrey Harker whilst Micky Hammond scores at Yarmouth and Peter Niven on Perth's evening card.
24/07/2022 | The calm between the storms. Roger Fell's Marie's Diamond was a decent second in the Pomfret Stakes L at Pontefract where there was a double for Charlie & Mark Johnston and a winner for Micky Hammond. The Johnston's also had a winner at Chelmsford.
23/07/2022 | Not the most successful of days but Karl Burke's Lethal Levi garnered another big win when landing the £25,770 Glenn Roeder Race Day Handicap at Newmarket, where Kevin Ryan took the last. A big day at Ascot but Yorkshire's only noteworthy performance came from John Quinn's Breege , a decent third in the opening Princess Margaret Stakes G3. At York there were winners for Paul Midgley, Kevin Ryan, Philip Kirby and Nigel Tinkler. Brian Ellison landed a treble at Newcastle where Grant Tuer and John Quinn also had wins.
22/07/2022 | A busy day ahead of a busier weekend and Goodwood next week. Ascot saw decent winners for Gemma Tutty (Mostly Cloudy in the £10,308 Brown Jack Handicap) and Micky Hammond (Carnvial Zain in the £10,266 Ascot Lady Amateur Riders' Trophy). At Thirsk there were wins for Peter Niven, Karl Burke, Philip Kirby and Charlie & Mark Johnston. Evening racing at York sees Karl Burke's Poptronic put up another solid performance when second in the Lyric Filies' Stakes L, and there was a double for Richard Fahey and wins for Mark Walford, Julie Camacho and Kevin Ryan. Charlie & Mark Johnston had a double on Newmarket's evening card.
21/07/2022 | Charlie & Mark Johnston's Dance In The Grass made it two from two today when tidily landing the Star Stakes L at Sandown .... hopefully this is an indicator of a Glorious Goodwood for Team Kingsley Park. Evening racing at Doncaster yielded wins for Tim Easterby, Ed Bethell and David O'Meara.
16/07/2022 | John Quinn's Mr Wagyu landed another big handicap today when coming home a head in front in the £50,420 Scurry Premier Handicap at the Curragh. Just a short hop over the Irish Sea to Chester where Julie Camacho's Look Out Louis took the £33,501 Beck's Handicap. At Newmarket Charlie & Mark Johnston's Rose Of Kildare returned to better form when second in the Aphrodite Stakes L and David O'Meara had a winner. Local winners at Ripon with a double for Tim Easterby and wins for Philip Kirby and Ben Haslam. No doubt it was packed at Cartmel where Brian Ellison, Mark Walford and Mark Weatherer (his first winner) all struck, whilst Micky Hammond had Yorkshire's only winner at Market Rasen. Evening racing at Doncaster yields wins for Richard Fahey and Karl Burke.
09/07/2022 | Super/Sizzling Saturday with black-type races at Ascot, Chester, Newmarket and York, not to mention three 'Heritage' handicaps. But, actually, it didn't go brilliantly for Yorkshire. Obviously Newmarket (sorry York!) was the main meeting ; but nothing really went to plan for the Tyke raiders. Slightly better at York with Antony Brittain's Mondammej second in the City Walls Stakes L just in front of Karl Burke's Korker in third and Julie Camacho's Makanah in fourth. In the £103,080 John Smith's Cup Richard Fahey's Spirit Dancer was best placed of the locals in fourth whilst Charlie & Mark Johnston's Thunderous was third ...... of three ..... in the John Smith's Silver Cup G3. Supporting races saw a double for Karl Burke. In the £51,540 Betfred Heritage Handicap at Ascot Bryan Smart's Bond Chairman was a strong second, losing by only a nose, with David & Nicola Barron's Zarzyni back in third. At Chester Karl Burke took the opener and Richard Fahey the last. Evening racing saw wins for Mick & David Easterby and Charlie & Mark Johnston at Hamilton. Later still at Belmont Park Charlie Johnston's (joint trainers are not allowed in the US!) Royal Patronage was a reasonable fifth (beaten only a head and two necks out of second) in the Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes G1, his last run for Team Kingsley Park, as he is remaining in the US. I neglected to mention that David O'Meara's Lord Glitters, after a career that can only be described as ... glittering ... has been retired aged nine with career winnings of over £2.2m.
08/07/2022 | Another good day for Middleham at the Newmarket July Festival with Charlie & Mark Johnston's Soapy Stevens landing another big handicap when first in the £51,540 bet365 Trophy Heritage Handicap. In addition James Horton's Phantom Flight was a decent third in the bet365 Handicap (which is a different race, honest). York sees wins for Kevin Ryan, Richard Fahey and Ann Duffield whilst there are winners on Chester's evening card for Micky Hammond, Charlie & Mark Johnston, Harriet Bethell, Mick & David Easterby and Jedd O'Keeffe.
07/07/2022 | Day One of the Newmarket July meeting goes quite well for Yorkshire. Or rather Middleham. First up Karl Burke's Al Qareem is a career best second, by a head, in the Bahrain Trophy G3 which, for some reason, was worth twice as much as the Group Two later on the card meaning connections took £43,000 home. In the £51,540 Bet Boost At bet365 Heritage Handicap Burke's Lethal Levi comes home in front, with Richard Fahey's Admiral D in second. In the Princess Of Wales's Stakes G2 Charlie & Mark Johnston's Living Legend returned back to his best level to be second. At Carlisle Charlie & Mark Johnston had a double and there were also winners for Grant Tuer, Karl Burke and Tim Easterby, whilst Karl Burke and Ann Duffield had wins at Doncaster. Evening racing at Epsom sees another winner for Team Johnston.
05/07/2022 | After numerous attempts and close calls with both David O'Meara and previous trainer Ken Condon O'Meara's tough filly Thunder Beauty finally got her nose (or rather her five lengths) in front at the line in a black-type race to take the Pipalong Stakes L at Pontefract today. Other Ponty winners were provided by Karl Burke, Tim Easterby, Richard Fahey, Ed Bethell and Nigel Tinkler.
03/07/2022 | David O'Meara's Improvised again put up a good black type performance when third in the Queen Charlotte Fillies' Stakes L at Chelmsford, another strong broodmare prospect for Branton Court. At Ayr there is a double for Karl Burke and Mick & David Easterby took the last. It was a good day for Middleham as Micky Hammond had a treble at Market Rasen.
02/07/2022 | Haydock today saw David O'Meara's Get Shirty land yet another big handicap when he prevailed in the £77,310 Old Newton Cup Handicap, with Charlie & Mark Johnston's Enfranchise (having just her 13th run of the year!) a decent second. Richard Fahey provided the only other winner at Haydock. At Beverely the locals chalked up four wins courtesy of Bryan Smart, Paul Midgley, Mick & David Easterby and Tim Easterby. Meanwhile John Quinn took the last at Leicester and also the opener at Carlisle's evening meeting where Nigel Tinkler, Julie Camacho, Roger Fell, Ruth Carr and Tim Easterby also had wins, Yorkshire's sole winner on Notttingham's evening card came courtesy of Mick & David Easterby.
26/06/2022 | A fantastic day, over jumps!, for Ben Haslam with Jerrysback landing the £42,712 Summer Cup L at Uttoxeter and Dr Sanderson taking the £21,124 Oakmere Homes Handicap Chase at Cartmel. Both winners are owned by J.P.McManus, who has a long history with the stable, but they are also both by the stallion Jeremy. In addition Haslam had another winner at Cartmel, also owned by McManus , whilst Philip Kirby had a winner at Uttoxeter.
25/06/2022 | Not a particularly successful day for Yorkshire, big race wise, with probably the best performance coming from the Kevin Ryan trained, and Highbank Stud bred, Bielsa who was third in the Chipcase Stakes G3 at Newcastle on 'Plate' day, Julie Camacho's Ainsdale being fourth. Camacho had a winner earlier on the card with Raatea taking the £15,462 Pertemps Network Handicap and winners for Richard Fahey and James Horton later on the card. At Chester there was a a double for Declan Carroll whilst evening racing at Doncaster yielded wins for Grant Tuer, Charlie & Mark Johnston and Nigel Tinkler. It was announced that the Johnston star Royal Patronage will probably have one more run for Kingsley Park ; in the Belmont Derby, before being transferred to Graham Motion.
24/06/2022 | Another day, another big win for Karl Burke with Poptronic making it three in a row, and a big jump in class, when staying on well to land the Hoppings Fillies' Stakes G3, on Newcastle's traditional 'eve of Plate' meeting. Earlier Julie Camacho's Makanah was a decent third in the £25,770 Gosforth Park Cup. Tim Easterby, Richard Fahey, Ann Duffield and Grant Tuer (a dead heat) provided the other Tyke winners on Tyneside. Doncaster had earlier seen Adrian Nicholls take the last whilst Sam England and Micky Hammond each had a winner at bucolic Cartmel. The other evening meeting at Chester gave up wins for Charlie & Mark Johnston and John Quinn.
22/06/2022 | Carlisle's biggest meeting of the year sees Karl Burke's Invincibly land the £16,416 Carlisle Bell, with Julie Camacho's Makeen back in third. Richard Faheys' My Little Queens was second in the £16,416 Cumberland Plate Handicap with Karl Burke's Honey Sweet occupying the same position in the Eternal Stakes L in which Ed Bethell's Eidikos claimed third. Supporting winners were provided by Kevin Ryan and David & Nicola Barron.
18/06/2022 | The Yorkshire raiders at Royal Ascot seem to like the openers, and today it was the turn of Karl Burke's 40-1 debutante Holloway Boy who, despite running green, landed the Chesham Stakes L cosily with the Charlie & Mark Johnston duo of Lakota Sioux and Finn's Charm occupying third and fourth respectively. Not much to report afterwards, although John Quinn's Mr Wagyu was fourth in the Wokingham Handicap. That wasn't the end of the big wins for Spigot Lodge though with Burke's Guiled taking the Land O'Burns Fillies' Stakes L at Ayr (having also taken the opener) where Tim Easterby's Dark Jedi landed the £21,600 Weddings At Western House Hotel Handicap and there were also wins for Adrian Keatley, John Quinn and Roger Fell. At Redcar there were wins for James Horton, Tim Easterby, Les Eyre, David O'Meara, Paul Midgley and Mick & David Easterby whilst Adrian Nicholls scored at Newmarket. Evening racing at Haydock yields wins for Edward Bethell, Charlie & Mark Johnston and Karl Burke.
17/06/2022 | Boom ! Richard Fahey's Perfect Power bounced back from his Guineas effort to run out the authorative winner of the Commonwealth Cup G1, his third Group One win, not to mention his second Royal Ascot win ! In the next David & Nicola Barron's Contact was a good third in the £51,540 Duke of Edinburgh Handicap whilst Kevin Ryan's Copgrove bred Peggy Sioux also put up a creditable performance to be third in the £51,540 Palace Of Holyroodhouse Handicap. At Redcar there are wins for David O'Meara, Tim Easterby, Tony Coyle and Nigel Tinkler whilst Micky Hammond scored at Market Rasen. Evening racing sees wins for Roger Fell and Grant Tuer at Ayr and for Charlie & Mark Johnston at Newmarket
16/05/2022 | Again Yorkshire won the opener at Royal Ascot, but this time it was somewhat more controversial. Richard Fahey's The Ridler landed the Norfolk Stakes G2 (at record odds of 50-1) and looked the best on the day, but hung badly in the closing stages and hampered some of the other runners. To add to the intrigue the jockey was Paul Hanagan, having his first ride for Fahey for two weeks. The upshot was that, after a Stewards' Enquiry, the horse kept the race, but Hanagan got a ten day ban. Charlie & Mark Johnston took the opener at Chelmsford whilst evening racing at Ripon almost saw the locals go through the card; only to be stymied in the last, the successful trainers being a double for Richard Fahey (both ridden by Oisin Orr...!) and wins singular for Tim Easterby (daughter Emily up), Chris Fairhurst, Ben Haslam and Kevin Ryan.
15/06/2022 | Day two at Royal Ascot opened with a bang when the Branton Court homebred Dramatised, trained in Middleham by Karl Burke, landed the opening Queen Mary Stakes G2 in authorative style. She looks the best two year old filly we've seen thus far and potentially the sky is the limit, which also bodes well for David O'Meara's third placed Maria Branwell, owned by a syndicate that includes Steve Parkin; owner and breeder of the winner ! It was a worthwhile trip to Berkshire for O'Meara as his Thunder Beauty was a decent second in the Duke Of Cambridge Stakes G2. Hamilton saw wins for David O'Meara, Phillip Makin and Kevin Ryan. Evening racing at Nottingham gave up winners for Ruth Carr and Gemma Tutty and at Ripon for Tim Easterby and Karl Burke.
14/06/2022 | The opening day of Royal Ascot and we have to wait till the last before a Yorkshire winner appears in the form of David O'Meara's Get Shirty, who held on strongly to take the £51,540 Copper Horse Handicap. Arguably though the performance of the day came in the King's Stand Stakes G1 where Nigel Tinkler's Acklam Express was third, at 200-1, only a head out of second. At Thirsk Kevin Ryan's Glenlaurel earned a TDN 'Rising Star' tag (or curse !) when running out the comfortable winner of the Fillies' Novice Stakes, Ryan also took the last and other winners came from Micky Hammond and Julie Camacho. Evening racing at Beverley results in wins for Charlie & Mark Johnston, Brian Ellison, Richard Fahey, Roger Fell and Ann Duffield.
11/06/2022 | The calm before the Royal Ascot storm sees Charlie & Mark Johnston's Soapy Stevens land the £30,924 Edinburgh Gin Boyzlife Handicap at Chester where Tim Easterby (Copper Knight in the £15,462 Ebinburgh Gin Rhubarb & Ginger Handicap), Roger Fell and Philip Kirby also had winners and Karl Burke's Bullet Force was a decent third in the £51,540 Extra Places Every Day At Betway Handicap. At York Grant Tuer's Lion Tower took the £20,616 JCB Handicap and there were supporting winners from Karl Burke and Lawrence Mullaney. Yorkshire's sole winner at Sandown came courtesy of Jedd O'Keeffe whilst Sam England, Mark Walford, Micky Hammond and Danny Brooke all scored at Hexham. Evening racing at Leicester yielded a promising first time out winner for Charlie & Mark Johnston in the form of Lion Of War in the opening maiden and there were also winners for Richard Fahey and Tim Easterby.
05/06/2022 | Sunday Series racing at Musselburgh, and Karl Burke's Snooze N You Lose picked up her first black type win when landing the Sky Bet Sunday Series Queen Of Scots Stakes L by two lengths from David O'Meara's Improvised. Roger Fell's Sophie's Star took the £13,176 Sky Bet Sunday Series 3yo Sprint Handicap and Charlie & Mark Johnston's Finn's Charm was an impressive eight and a half length winner of the £10,800 Maiden. Derby day at Chantilly sees Karl Burke's White Lavender finish a neck third in the Prix du Gros-Chene G2.
04/06/2022 | Well, Royal Patronage didn't do a 'Workforce' and land the Derby after finishing second in the Dante, but Yorkshire still had quite a good day at Epsom. The highlight was Tees Spirit providing Adrian Nicholls with his biggest win to date when taking the £50,960 'Dash' Heritage Handicap; a race won many times by his father 'Dandy', this was Tees Spirit third win in as many outings this term. Later on the card John Quinn's old timer Mr Waygu held on to land the £38,655 JRA Tokyo Trophy Handicap by a short head, in between (apart from the small matter of the Derby) Charlie & Mark Johnston's Soapy Stevens was third in the £38,655 Northern Dancer Handicap. At Musselburgh Charlie & Mark Johnston's Explicit was 'bought in' after landing the £10,800 Inchs Cider Selling Stakes, other wins were provided by David O'Meara, Kevin Ryan and Tim Easterby whilst Julie Camacho's Makanah was touched off by a neck to be second in the £25,770 Inchs Cider Scottish Sprint Cup. Doncaster saws wins for Declan Carroll, Roger Fell and Kevin Ryan (and a double for Sir Michael Stoute .... who's mind was probably elsewhere!) and Charlie & Mark Johnston's Achnamara was second in the £25,480 Doncaster Racecourse Celebrating The Platinum Jubilee Handicap.
02/06/2002 | Amidst the Jubilee celebrations Charlie & Mark Johnston's Forest Falcon landed the £24,700 Zetland Gold Cup at Redcar by two lengths this afternoon, with David & Nicola Barron's Baryshnikov back in third. Liam Bailey, Tim Easterby, Roger Fell, Gemma Tutty and Michael & David Easterby provided the other local(ish) winners on Teeside. Up at Hamilton Lawrence Mullaney (Snazzy Jazzy in the £15,462 Platinum Jubilee Celebrations Clyde Handicap) and John Quinn had wins. Oisin Orr seems to be the primary beneficiary of the (amicable) parting of Richard Fahey and Paul Hanagan , not sure what Tony Hamilton thinks about that !
28/05/2022 | David O'Meara's Star Of Lady M took the £20,616 Hilary Needler Trophy Fillies' Stakes at Beverley this afternoon, and Charlie & Mark Johnston had a double. At an eventually curtailed Chester Tim Easterby's Boardman landed the odds to take the £23,193 ICM Stellar Sports Handicap and Ben Haslam also had a winner. Haydock saw David & Nicola Barron's Contact a good winner of the £21,600 Betfred Double Delight Handicap and Karl Burke took the last. Catterick saw wins for Paul Midgley, Simon Whitaker and D&N Barron.
26/05/2022 | Evening racing at Sandown sees David O'Meara's Maria Branwell run out a neck winner of the National Stakes L whilst C&M Johnston's Thunderous is a head out of third in the Henry II Stakes G3. Earlier Tim Easterby landed a treble at Ripon where Julie Camacho and Nigel Tinkler also had winners. Haydock saw wins for Grant Tuer, Karl Burke and Kevin Ryan. The evening card at Carlisle saw another winner for Grant Tuer (who is on a bit of a roll both in terms of winners and prize money) as well as for C&M Johnston and Philip Kirby.
22/05/2022 | A decent winner at York for freshman James Horton today with Asjad landing the £25,770 Sky Bet Sunday Series Sprint Handicap for patrons John & Jess Dance. Grant Tuer and Karl Burke also left the Knavesmire with a winner apiece whilst Harriet Bethell struck at Fakenham.
21/05/2022 | Yorkshire wise the result of the day came at Haydock with Karl Burke's El Caballo making it six in a row, and a first group win, when landing the Sandy Lane Stakes G2 by a hard fought neck. There were also good placings for Antony Brittain's Mondammej and C&M Johnston's Golden Flame. At York Grant Tuer had the biggest win of his career to date when Illusionist prevailed by a neck (from Tim Easterby's Sunday Sovereign) in the £25,770 Wm Hill Best Odds Guaranteed Handicap . David O'Meara's old hand Esobar took the £15,462 Wm Hill Play Responsibly Handicap whilst John Quinn, Edward Bethell and Richard Fahey provided supporting winners. Musselburgh saw Jedd O'Keeffe's Hilts take the £25,770 Edinburgh Cup Handicap and Alan Brown also had a winner. At Goodwood Charlie & Mark Johnston's West End Charmer was second in the Festival Stakes L.
14/05/2022 | A relatively subdued day, following the fun of the Dante meeting. One noteworthy result was James Horton obtaining his first piece of 'black type' when Sam Maximus (group placed for Tom Dascombe last term) was third in the Carnarvon Stakes L at Newbury. Thirsk saw a double for David O'Meara and wins for David & Nicola Barron, Tim Easterby and Alan Brown. Evening racing yielded a win for Nigel Tinkler at Doncaster.
13/05/2022 | The final day of the Dante Meeting at York went .... spectacularly .... for the locals taking six of the seven races. First up there was a Karl Burke 1-2 in the Marygate Fillies' Stakes L with Pillow Talk overcoming Yahsat by a neck and the pair well clear of the next. Next up Kevin Ryan's Fonteyn, who went to the start as a maiden, landed the Oaks Farm Stables Fillies' Stakes L by a head, with David O'Meara's Love Interest in third. Tim Easterby's Bollin Joan took the £18,039 Paddy Power 'I Love Steak' Handicap, with Charlie & Mark Johnston's Love Is Golden in third. Yorkshire didn't prevail in Yorkshire Cup G2, which went to Stradivarius (long the thorn in Kingsley Park's side!) but Charlie & Mark Johnston's Thunderous (last seen only 8 days previously!) was best of the rest in second ahead of Brian Ellison's Tashkhan in third. Subsequently James Horton had his biggest winner to date and Karl Burke landed two more races to make it a treble. John Quinn took the last at Newmarket whilst evening racing saw Jack Teal have a winner at Wetherby and David O'Meara likewise at Hamilton.
12/05/2022 | Dante Stakes G2 day sees Charlie & Mark Johnston's Royal Patronage finish a good second to the new Derby favourite. Remember Workforce was second .... although connections seem unsure whether to go to Epsom or Chantilly next. Karl Burke enjoyed a 1-2 in the Westow Stakes L with Last Crusader (owner Steve Parkin of Branton Court Stud celebrating so much he injured himself !) triumphing over stablemate Guilded, Kevin Ryan's Boonie was fourth. Earlier Tim Easterby's Cruyff Turn was the winner by a head in the £25,770 Hambleton Handicap. Evening racing sees Charlie & Mark Johnston and Ed Bethell land the opening two races at Newmarket.
11/05/2022 | Day one of the Dante Meeting at York sees a Yorkshire 1-2 in the Duke of York Stakes G2 with John Quinn's Highfield Princess prevailing over Karl Burke's Spycatcher. Earlier there were good runner-up performances from Kevin Ryan's Forza Orta and Julie Camcacho's Makanah whilst Adrian Keatley and Kevin Ryan land the last two. Ann Duffield and Guy Brewer had winners at Perth whilst Charlie & Mark Johnston scored at Bath.
07/05/2022 | The best results today came over hurdles at Haydock with Ann Duffield's N'golo comfortably landing the Swinton Handicap Hurdle Gd3 and Sue Smith's Romeo Brown the £26,015 Pertemps Long Distance Handicap Hurdle. It was the traditional mixed meeting so the supporting winner was on the flat for Tim Easterby. At Lingfield David O'Meara's Thunder Beauty was third in the Chartwell Fillies' Stakes G3 and there was a double for Charlie & Mark Johnston. Gemma Tutty and Adrian Nicholls had a winner apiece at Nottingham whilst Jedd O'Keeffe had a winner at Hexham. Evening racing yielded wins at Thirsk for Karl Burke, Tim Easterby and Richard Fahey.
06/05/2022 | The third and final day at Chester sees David & Nicola Barron's Baryshnikov land the £20,616 Deepbridge Handicap. A whole three evening meetings with Karl Burke and Nigel Tinkler scoring at Nottingham and Ollie Pears at Wolverhampton. The locals were rampant at Ripon with a double for Ben Haslam and winners singular for Richard Fahey, Paul Midgley, Simon Whitaker and Tim Easterby.
05/05/2022 | Day Two at Chester was an improvement on Day One with Julie Camacho's Look Out Louis, formerly trained by Tim Easterby, prevailing by a head in the £20,616 ICM Stellar Sports Handicap from Count D'Orsay trained by, erm, Tim Easterby. Ouch. Later on the card C&M Johnston's Thunderous improved on his prior run to be a good second in the Ormonde Stakes G3. Chelmsford's evening meet saw winners for D&N Barron and C&M Johnston.
30/04/2022 | Perfect Power and Royal Patronage finished together in midfield in the 2,000 Guineas G1 today, not a disgrace and, arguably, promising, but not quite what we'd had in mind. Otherwise it was actually quite a good day at HQ with Richard Fahey's Umm Kulthum landing the opening Kilvington Stakes L by a neck and David & Nicola Barron's Contact taking the £25,770 Read Tony Calvin's Tips On Betting.Betfair Handicap, stablemate to the later, Zarzyni, was a promising fourth in the Palace House Stakes G3. There were also good placings for Karl Burke's Bullet Force, C&M Johnston's Spirit Catcher and Kevin Ryan's Anadora in supporting races. On home soil at Thirsk D&N Barron's On A Session was second in the £25,770 Thirsk Hunt Cup and there were winners for Lawrence Mullaney, Ollie Pears and Micky Hammond. Kevin Ryan provided the only local winner on Doncaster's evening card whilst Mark Walford, John Quinn, Jedd O'Keeffe and Adrian Keatley all had winners at Hexham.
29/04/2022 | The press was all over the Appleby/Buick combo for day one of the Guineas Meeting at Newmarket, carefully side-stepping that the Charlie & Mark Johnston trained Living Legend landed the main race of the day, the Jockey Club Stakes G2, albeit he probably had a significiant fitness advantage over Breeders' Cup winner, and odds-on favourite, Yibir who he beat by one and three-quarter lengths ..... albeit Yibir was second in the Sheema Classic a month ago, so he can't have been that unfit. Karl Burke's Honey Sweet stepped up from her last run when a good second in the King Charles II Stakes L , albeit six lengths back. Stablemate Wizard D'Amour was second in the £25,770 Betfair Daily Rewards Handicp, with David & Nicola Barron's Another Batt in third. The opening maiden at Newmarket was taken in eye-catching style by Karl Burke's Dramatised, home bred by Branton Court Stud. Harriet Bethell had a win at Wolverhampton whilst evening racing at Newcastle saw wins for Ruth Carr, Bryan Smart and John Wainwright.
28/04/2022 | Charlie & Mark Johnston's Tippy Toes never looked anything other than the winner when landing the Chelmer Fillies' Stakes L at Chelmsford this evening, earlier the same team had landed the opener at Chepstow, looking good for the Guineas meeting ....... Day time racing saw winners for Karl Burke, Micky Hammond, John Quinn and Liam Bailey. Redcar saw a David O'Meara double whilst Adrian Keatley took the last. Spare a though for Ed Bethell who had two seconds at Redcar ..... in fact his last four runners have finished second !
22/04/2022 | Kevin Ryan's Juan Elcano was third (and last!) in the Gordon Richards Stakes G3 at Sandown today, albeit the forth place of David O'Meara's Rhoscolyn in the subsequent bet365 Mile G2 at arguably a better performance. Doncaster saw a double for David O'Meara and wins for Ruth Carr and Richard Fahey, Mark Walford had a win at Perth.
18/04/2022 | James Horton, currently renting from Sally Hall at Brecongill pending the Dance's conversion of Manor House Stud, had sent out five for zero prior today. Today however he saddled four runners ; the three at Redcar all won, and the one at Wolves was second ! John Wainwright, and Nigel Tinkler also had wins at Redcar whilst Alan Brown took the penultimate race at Wolverhampton.
16/04/2022 | So is Richard Fahey's Perfect Power an incredibly fast miler, or a sprinter who might stay a mile ? Who knows ? But one question is now answered ; he's certainly trained on, proven today when he ran out a convincing winner of the Greenham Stakes G3 at Newbury. Personally I'd say ; there's only one Guineas (.... although, obviously, there isn't!). It was a good day at Newbury for Fahey as his largely unfancied Barbanera was also a decent fourth, only a nose out of third, in the Fred Darling Stakes G3. Up at Musselburgh David & Nicola Barron's Zarzyni took the £25,770 Betway Holyrood Handicap from Kevin Ryan's Justanotherbottle and Charlie & Mark Johnston's Spirit Catcher landed the £15,462 Betway Royal Mile Handicap from Grant Tuer's Dirtyoldtown. Tim Easterby's Dark Jedi was a good second in the £51,540 Betway Queen's Cup Heritage Handicap and Karl Burke and Julie Camacho had winners later on the card. Over jumps the best performance came from John Quinn's First Impression, third in Haydock's £25,720 Challenger Two Mile Hurdle Series Final Handicap. Whilst Mark Walford and Sue Smith had a winner apiece at Carlisle. Evening racing saw a winner for David O'Meara at Lingfield whilst Richard Fahey and Ed Bethell scored at Nottingham.
15/04/2022 | It may well have been Middleham Open Day today, but
things went quite well on the track today .... to say the
least ! It was All-Weather Championship Day at Newcastle
and the first result of note was Karl Burke's Spycather
who was third (by two short heads) in the £77,310 Betway
All-Weather Sprint Championships Conditions Stakes. Next
up Burke's El Caballo, the favourite,
landed the £77,310 Coral 3 Year Old All-Weather
Championships Conditions Stakes by, appropriately, a
short head. John Quinn got in on the
action with Highfield Princess (joint favourite) keeping
on nicely to land the £77,310 Coral All-Weather Fillies'
And Mares' Championships Conditions Stakes. In the
£77,310 Betway All-Weather Marathon Championships
Conditions Stakes Brian Ellison's Onesmoothoperator
was a decent third before Charlie & Mark
Johnston's Living Legend took the days feature,
the £103,080 Betway Easter Classic All-Weather Middle
Distance Championships Conditions Stakes nicely. But wait
.... it was also 'Vase' day on the A-W at Lingfield ....
here Brian Ellison got his winner with
Pallas Dancer in the £23,399 Betway All-Weather Vase
Apprentice Handicap, and another third ; this time with
Fair Star in the £33,501 Betway All-Weather Vase
Marathon Handicap. Team Johnston had
another winner with If You Dare in the £33,501 Betway
All-Weather Vase Sprint Handicap, in which Karl
Burke's Shallow Hal was second. Burke's Aasser
landed the £23,399 Coral All-Weather Vase Three-Year-Old
Handicap and David & Nicola Barron's On
A Session was second in the £33,501 All-Weather Vase
Mile Handicap. Phew. |

14/04/2022 | All eyes were on Newmarket today, but at Bath Karl Burke's new recruit White Lavender provided Yorkshire with it's first domestic flat black type win of the year by easily landing the Whitsbury Manor Stud / British EBF Lansdown Stakes L. Meanwhile at the aforementioned HQ Charlie & Mark Johnston's Austrian Theory was third in the Feilden Stakes L. The locals swept the board at Ripon with wins for David O'Meara, Tim Easterby, Ben Haslam, Philip Kirby, Richard Fahey, Charlie & Mark Johnston and John Quinn.
13/04/2022 | Day two of the Craven Meeting sees a Yorkshire winner with Kevin Ryan's Anadora landing the £16,200 bet365 Handicap gamely. Beverley saw wins for Richard Fahey, Tim Easterby and a dead-heat between Nigel Tinkler and Richard Fahey (now that's a race I'd pay good money to see!) in the last.
12/04/2022 | Craven Meeting time. It's getting serious. The best result for Yorkshire was Karl Burke's Almohandesayh finishing second in the Nell Gwyn Stakes G3, at 28-1. The same team's Honey Sweet, a French listed winner last term, was fourth in the European Free Handicap L. Kevin Ryan's Bergerac was a nose second in the £16,200 Weatherbys Bloodstock Pro Handicap, with Julie Camacho's Raatea a decent third. Karl Burke had a winner on Wolverhampton's evening card.
02/04/2022 | Some OK results up at Ayr with Peter Niven's Malystic second in the opening Scotty Brand Handicap Chase L and Ruth Jefferson's Sound Russian likewise second in the £26,015 CPMS Novices' Champion Handicap Chase , Jefferson's Autumn Return took the last.
01/04/2022 | Brian Ellison's Nietzsche is a decent third in the Hillhouse Quarry Handicap Chase L at Ayr this afternoon. Charlie & Mark Johnston and Roger Fell come home from Southwell with a winner.
31/03/2022 | A good start to the season for Kevin Ryan with Dark Moon Rising landing this evening's £51,540 Woodford Reserve Cardinal Conditions Stakes (Road To The Kentucky Derby) at Chelmsford. Only the fourth best prospect according to the betting he comfortably held the favourite, whether he heads for Churchill Downs remains to be seen ! The freshly minted partnership of David & Nicola Barron landed the following race. Earlier Ryan had a winner over hurdles at Wetherby where Micky Hammond, Joanne Foster and Andy Crook also had wins.
26/03/2022 | The wait is over, 'proper' (get to the back of the queue to flame me) racing started today at Doncaster, as per tradition. The only local winner came in the last courtesy of Tony Coyle although Antony Brittain's Mondammej was a decent third in the Cammidge Trophy L and John Quinn's Empirestateofmind was third in the Spring Mile. Actually a bit better at Kempton with Charlie & Mark Johnston's largely unheralded Living Legend landing the Magnolia Stakes L by a nose, they doubled up later on the card, although this was tempered somewhat with The Last Lion suffering a fatal injury in the sprint handicap after a career which saw him retired to stud after landing the Middle Park Stakes G1 at two, proving to be sub-fertile and then returning to training. Sue Smith had a double at Kelso including Romeo Brown in the £15,609 Schloss Roxburghe Go North Cab On Target Handicap Hurdle, Tim Easterby's Betty Baloo was third in the £26,015 Herring Queen Series Final Mares' Novices' Handicap Hurdle. Evening racing at Wolverhampton saw another double for Charlie & Mark Johnston , to make it four for the day.
12/03/2022 | A quiet Saturday, with just a David Griffith winner at Lingfield. Earlier in the week Sir Robert Ogden of Sicklinghall Stud passed away at the age of 86. Three times leading NH owner with such luminaries as Voy Por Ustedes, Exotic Dancer, Kingsmark, Marlborough and Star de Mohaison he had returned to the flat in more recent times, most notably with the David O'Meara trained homebred Amazing Maria; winner of the Falmouth Stakes G1 and Prix Rothschild G1 in 201, and Sans Frontieres, winner of the Irish St Leger G1 in 2010.
05/03/2022 | With our runners in Dubai running below par it was time for National Hunt to come to the fore and, yet again, Brian Ellison delivered ; this time with Cormier landing the £51,440 Morebattle Hurdle at Kelso, running on well to win nicely. There was a good result on the flat though with Karl Burke's progressive El Caballo landing the Spring Cup L at Lingfield. Mick & David Easterby took the opener on Southwell's evening card.
26/02/2022 | Not much joy over sticks or abroad, but Mel Brittain's Mondammej puts up an excellent performance when a neck second in the Hever Sprint Stakes L at Lingfield.
20/02/2022 | Remember back in the Eighties when all the Yorkshire 'big results' at this time of year were over sticks ?? Today Ed Bethell's Regional put up a career best performance when finishing second in the Dukhan Sprint (Local Group 3) at Doha, earning £40,740 for connections. Kevin Ryan's Chrysos looked a potentially useful sort when landing the Novice race at Lingfield and Alan Brown had a winner at Newcastle.
18/02/2022 | Another good result in Dubai when Nigel Tinkler's Acklam Express is second in the Blue Point Sprint G2 at Meydan. Domestic racing is struck by storms, but Ruth Jefferson has a winner at Kelso.
11/02/2022 | The machine that is David O'Mears's Lord Glitter struck tonight at Meydan, landing the Singspiel Stakes G2, from last in running, for the second year in a row. Another ~£150k and he'll overtake Collier Hill in the 'all time' Yorkshire list to move into third place !
05/02/2022 | A busy day on the flat and over fences, needless to say Yorkshire did somewhat better on the flat ! At Lingfield Karl Burke landed a 1-2 in the Kachy Stakes L with Spycatcher taking the spoils by a neck from stablemate Lord Of The Lodge. In the Winter Derby Trial L Charlie & Mark Johnston's Living Legend was a neck third. At Wetherby Micky Hammond landed the Class 2 Handicap Chase with favourite Schiehallion. Earlier in the week it was announced that the Johnston trained stayer Subjectivist wasn't likely to return until 2023.
29/01/2022 | Brian Ellison's Windsor Avenue came up trumps today (yes I had a rare bet!) when landing the £56,950 Sky Bet Handicap Chase L at Doncaster this afternoon, at odds of 40-1, unfortunately Sue Smith stalwart Midnight Shadow suffered a fatal injury in the same race. Also at Donnie Ann Duffield's The Real Whacker was a good second in the Albert Bartlett River Don Novices' Hurdle Gd2, 14 lengths in front of the third, Sue Smith won the last and also scored at Uttoxeter. It was a good day for Ellison as his Cormier landed the opener at Cheltenham's 'Trial' meeting.
28/01/2022 | Roger Fell's Marie's Diamond, a recent recruit from the Johnston stable, puts up a good performance at Meydan when second in the Zabeel Turf L. Philip Kirby has a winner at Doncaster whilst Karl Burke and Charlie & Mark Johnston score at Lingfield. The late afternoon / early evening card at Wolverhampton yields wins for the newly-recovered Harriet Bethell as well as Karl Burke, Antony Brittain and Richard Fahey.
21/01/2022 | Philip Kirby's Top Ville Ben started his year in good fashion when landing today's £26,015 Cazoo Hurdle at Lingfield ; his first run over hurdles since April, having being placed third in the Rowland Meyrick Gd3 last time out ! At Meydan David O'Meara's stable stalwart Lord Glitters, starting favourite, could 'only' manage fourth in the Al Rashidiya G2, but hopefully this will put him on song for bigger challenges over the next few weeks. David O'Meara and Karl Burke scored at Southwell whilst evening racing at Newcastle saw winners for Antony Brittain (a double), Richard Fahey, Peter Niven and Alan Brown.
03/01/2022 | That didn't take long then, a small bit of history today with the Mark Johnston winner tally having been frozen at close of business on the 31st December the Charlie & Mark Johnston tally was kicked off today when Golden Sands landed the odds at Wolverhampton with, presumably, many many more to follow ! David O'Meara scored at Lingfield |
